Why can I not edit my birth date?
Your birth date helps prevent identity fraud and unauthorized data manipulation since it could compromise the integrity of the data removal process. This restriction is in place for several important reasons:
- Verification and identification: Data brokers rely on birthdates as a key identifier to distinguish individuals with similar names. Changing this information could make it difficult to locate and remove exposures accurately.
- Data source limitations: Monitor’s scan retrieves information from public records, consumer databases, and other sources where birthdates are typically stored as fixed identifiers. Since these records originate from official sources, they cannot be altered through the scan itself.
- Fraud prevention measures: Restricting changes to birth dates helps prevent identity fraud and unauthorized data manipulation.
